Established in 1991 on the day Armenia declared independence from the Soviet Union, The American University of Armenia (AUA) was founded by a group of world-renowned educators and community leaders. Joined and supported by the University of California, these visionaries established what would quickly become the leading institution in the region, providing an American graduate education.
Our Board of Trustees includes senior leadership from the highest levels of the University of California administration. Our Chairman of the Board is Dr. Lawrence H. Pitts, the immediate past-Provost of the Regents of the University of California. Additionally, several members of the Board are community leaders.
